May 26 'PDA Theme' from Anthony Canning.

Hi John, I was looking around the web for a new skin for my pocket PC PDA when I came across a SV related theme which mentions the .org site, not sure if you were aware of it so thought I would sent you the link

http://www.pocketpcthemes.com/preview.asp?ID=1545

Thanks, No I wasn't aware of it. I'm a Palm Pilot man myself, so I'll have to contend with a bland B&W screen ;-(  I'm sure others will be able to use it.

May 26 'Fender elimination & Numberplate bracket' from Stephen Spiteri

Hi john, Here's a picture of my SV's rear. Nice ass eh? As you can see the plastic has been replaced by a home made aluminium tray. An indicator bracket had to be devised to accomodate the numberplate and lights. This I'm sending a template of. I could not manage to scan the tray template though as it was too large to fit in my scanner. Template was fashioned by numerous attempts with loads of pieces of card on site and not by computer. It was a labourous job but totally worth it as you might agree. Also,  I would like to tell Mr. Pete Smith that his tank seems to have the same dent as my brothers which he managed to pop out at a local panel beater with no problems. The beater had a puller which was glued to the tank with which he did the job. We had to respray though as the puller also pulled off the paint. Better than buying a new tank I suppose. Regards, Zunkus Think positive and keep the balance

Nice Job. Can't believe you made the undertray yourself

May 22 'oh dear...' from Pete Smith

John..   my poor baby... look at what some pesky Suzuki swift did!!   Check out the dent in that tank!!  no wonder I hurt now!! not quite sure how I'm going to get that out..  and how about those forks!!

OOOooouchOuch. Walking like John Wayne now? Get better soon Pete.

May 20 'Body stickers update'

I've had some interest in the bodystickers but not a deluge. I've gone a head and order some anyway. If they arrive in time, I'll bring them along to the rideout. I'll also bring some site stickers for those that want them.

May 20 'Chris Baker checking in'

Hi John, Don't know if you saw it yet or not but my MV-SV (pre-yellow) got a pic in the latest issue of 'Performance Bikes' . They did an SV article and called out a few 'trick' bikes. I had no idea they were including my bike. I think I'll contact them and see if they'd do a bigger feature on it. Who knows...(I'll be adding PB's recent SV1K test and the Sv article to the site soon)

Progress on the carbon tank for my SV has slowed as I've gotten into the composites thing pretty deeply and have been spending time doing other little projects like making a custom hugger (pics attached) for my RGV 250/Gamma 500 project. I did finish the SV tank mold and it's just sitting there waiting for me to do the layup. Soon, I promise. And I'll get you pics once I have something to show.

Let me know if you think the style of this hugger would play well on the SV. It's a bit too angular for the pre-2003 model, in my opinion but it may work with the new style. It's actually made from a mold of the center/top of the MV tail section with the vents being a mold off the vents on the original RGV tail. Then lots of cutting, hot glue, popsicle sticks, cursing and Bondo...! What's nice is that once this is done, I can now take molds from it and graft them to fit onto most any other bike.

Well I love it. I think it would look great on the 03 SV and not to shabby on the earlier SV either. You build 'em and I'll flog em. I might have to invest in one of those yellow three wheeler vans.

May 17 'My SVS' from Steve White

Hi, Fantastic Site. Thought you might like a couple of pics of my recently acquired 2000 SVS I haven't seen another with this paint scheme (sorry about the wheels - they really do look better in real life- honest) and according to the V5 it is the original paint. Keep up the site it is a great source of info. Your efforts are greatly appreciated. Steve.

There are a few others around and you can see them in image catalogs 11,12,13 & 21, but they are rare. On the other hand it could be the same bike being passed around different owners?

May 16 'Hello from France' from Michel Torrès

Hello from a newcomer from France. Here's two snapshot of my SV2002. SHE comes from Italy (there was no black model in France since 1999) and all the tuning parts were made in France. Soon Michel Torrès

May 16 'SV in Scotland' from Allan Wilson

Hi John, I emailed you last Autumn, well at last I have my own SV. It's a naked 2000 model, I've added an F15 screen from MPS, bar ends from motrax, and a powerbronze hugger which I painted myself. However the photo doesn't do the candy Grande blue any justice. Lots more planned watch this space. Al. Scotland. www.justpainted.com

Welcome to the club.

May 14 'BodyWork Stickers'

Just to wet your appetite. I've knocked up a web page for the forthcoming body panel stickers that I mentioned last month. Julian from Axxent signs has made up some samples and taken photos. We've sorted out some prices. Take a look and tell me what you think. Should I spend the family food budget on these things.

May 9 'Salopians Unite' from Simon Gosling

Dear John,  I am from Shrewsbury originally, having moved down to London ten years ago. I am going on the rideout on the 25th and am looking forward to it a lot. Have you seen the lower fairing for the SV by French firm freestreetdesign.com? Check it out its terrific! (I have seen this bellypan before, I'm sure it's in the gallery somewhere) The bike is great and I have no plans to change it even if it does cough and splutter in wet weather (I see you have an fender extender, that usually solves the problem). I have a legal Remus carbon can that looks and sounds much better than stock. The best buy of the moment, an Oxford tankbag. So practical ,I wish I'd got one ages ago (I use mine mainly for the map window, as you say, dead useful). Regards Simon.

May 9 'Wreck of the Month award' from Emmet Keoghan

hi john, this is what's left of my sv after a dance with an unforgiving tractor, after looking at all the lovely tricked up sv's, i thought I'd send you a couple of shots of how well an sv can take a 60mph direct hit!!!! p.s. i didn't do so well bzk

Jeez, looks like you got hit by an exocet missile. I hope you are not as badly mangled as your bike. Get well soon. John

May 7 'SV tacho' from David Forster

Hi John.  Last week the tacho on my naked SV packed in. I suspected it would  eventually because it always misted up when wet. Anyway on Sunday I thought  I would take a look as we were riding up to Scotland on the Bank holiday. I  dismantled the clocks to find the PCB for the tacho had corrosion & fur on  it also the IC had the same fur between some of the pins. I found at least 5 fly's inside the consol where the illumination bulbs push into the tacho. I had run out of  contact cleaner so I used WD40 & a toothbrush to clean it up. Reassembled and it now works fine now, I added  some plastic from a carrier bag to protect against rain. Because of the way  Suzuki have made the console assembly, it should come marked "for indoor use only".

SVS's should fair (pun intended)  better (I wouldn't put money on it) but mist & that swirly stuff on motorways will still get in. That is assuming the SVS console is designed to the same standard of the SV. (or worse)

May 4 'New Exhaust' from Peter van der Kleij

Just for information i'll send in some pictures of my new exhaust system. It's from BSM (NL) and in my opinion they did a great job. There are db-killers but i like to ride naked. Sound......fiendish. Roelf Thijs, my suzuki-dealer from Assen (TT city) did the fitting.

I wrote back and asked Peter about the fairing.

It's a 3/4 fairing from TCP (Bandit 1200) which Roelof Thijs adjusted to fit on the sv. It gives a good wind protection and the color is spot on. The stickers are original Suzuki. You can find the original at this adres: http://www.redestb.es/tcpsa/cat_suz.htm  I don't know if they still make them Peter.

May 3 'Hello from Texas' from Kevin Williams

May 2 'BikeSliders' from Peter Kielland - kielland@visionary-technology.com

Hi John: Some time ago you graciously posted a linked banner I sent you for the "SUNriser" clipon risers I developed. That product is doing well and has inspired me to develop another product for my SV. I've set up a website to promote the new product and I wonder if you would consider adding another linked banner in your "services" page. My new website is: www.bikesliders.com  Here's my banner for it: I'm quite proud of these sliders and I hope other SV will find them attractive. Thanks Peter Kielland Ottawa, Canada. Added to the Services and Links sections.

May 1st 'Kevin Jones'

Kevin's funeral was held on Tuesday 29th at Wrexham Crematorium. Needless to say it was a sad occasion. Kevin's brother, Dillon, thanked me for the tribute page to Kev and asked me to pass on a big thank you from all the family for the kind words and deeds. I have passed on all your emails, letters and forum tributes to Kevin's wife, Karen, she has enjoy reading them.  I'll sort out the donation money next week and pass that on too.

A memorial service is to be held at 14:30 on Tuesday the 7th of May at All Saints Church in Gobowen, Oswesty. All are welcome.

May 1st 'Lands End trip update from Wayne Campbell

The Land's End to John O'Groats trip is fast approaching and I need to get some kind of commitment from those of you intending to join in. Accommodation needs to be booked in Land's End, Blackpool and John O'Groats (or surrounding areas) and deposits are required asap. The original plan was for the trip to be a fund raising event but as there has been little interest in this I have decided that it will now just be done for fun. However, in light of recent events, I would like to suggest that all participants donate a minimum of £5 towards Kevin Jones chosen charity, Hope House. If anyone else wants to organise the charity side of this trip then by all means please contact me. Hope House website is http://www.hopehouse.org.uk/ and contact details can be found there. (I have no idea how to go about fund raising but will happily donate.) For those unfamiliar with the trip, information can be found via a link on the SV650.org homepage.

May 1st 'Buell SV1000' from Uwe Jamnik

Hi John! Thanks for that great site. I visit it very often because it offers lots of information around that "Century" cycle. I´m a driver of a KTM LC4 650 Supermoto and plan to change the cycle. My favorite is the SV 650. She offers a lot of power. 70 HP are more than enough for riding around. Enclosed I send you a picture with the fairing I´ll realize when I´m the owner of that pice. < > Greetings from UWE in Austria

May 1st 'One is good, two is better' from Danny Sheppard

My girlfriend and I have returned to motorcycling after a few years out and started back on a little GPZ500 then moved on to a new ZZR 600 which neither of us found at all fun. The SV had caught our eye before but I felt after the ZZR it may be a bit under powered. Any way we rode one and couldn't believe the grin factor!!! We bought a black one and some bolt ons, only trouble was we loved it too much and decided the only way to go was to buy another one! so now we have a pair..(picture attatched) The black one is mine and the red one Sandi's. Hope to get out on one of your ride outs. Keep up the good work, most excellent site, sorry to read about your friend Kev,sounds like he'll be well missed. regards Danny and Sandi

Is the red one faster?

May 1st

To say that April wasn't a good month, would be an understatement. Kevin's death opened up all sorts emotional issues for me. We zap about on our bikes not giving a moments thought to our own mortality, but something like this makes you focus on it. I've had a very lucky 30 years on bikes, sure I've had the odd spill, but nothing serious. As the years clock up I can't help but wonder when I'm going to cop it (reaches out for the wood).

One of the reasons I bought an SV650 is because I couldn't trust myself with anything bigger. This is more to do with speeding (but ultimately safety), it's just too easy to ride a modern bike at illegal speeds. Slowing down for a 30 limit feels like I've stopped, painfully difficult. In the 70's I moved up from a Suzuki GT185 to a GT750, a big jump in performance even then. I would drive around on the 750 thinking I was taking it easy in the busy areas, but a glance on the speedo always seemed to show 50mph. Needless to say, during 3 years of ownership I managed to get two driving bans, all for speeding (clocking up points). On one occasion I was pulled for doing 90 through Victoria Park in East London. I got a huge bollocking for that by the PC involved. It's a wonder I made it this far. It's not clever.

The one thing about the 750 that did slow me down was the handling. The frame was made of rubber, damping non-existant and diabolical tyres. Taking corners at silly speeds would be a courting danger, if you closed the throttle half way around the bend, the bike would go into a violent tank slapper. You always knew where the limits were. Modern bikes do everything so well. You can brake much later, corner much faster, yet the hazards haven't changed, oil, mud, blind pedestrians etc. You can now encounter these hazards at much higher speeds. Sorry if this is a bit 'doom and gloom' bikes are fun and I still love riding them but it's good to be mindful of how easy it is to get hurt.

That was my head talking, my heart still wants the SV1000!

The hugger for my SV from MPS finally arrived, two months after it was ordered. Not the fault of MPS but the supplier, Skidmarx. Now fitted and will hopefully keep some of the crap off the subframe area. Doesn't look to bad, although I don't really like huggers.

There is a bike show on at Telford International arena 10-11th May http://www.bike-live.uk.com/  I shall probably wander along, on the Sunday, depending on the weather. It will seem odd, going without Kev. Also the 2003 rideout looms on the horizon at the end of the month. I'm really looking forward to this. The route and schedule look very well organised thanks to Mark and Steve. Hopefully they'll be a record turnout of SV's. It will also be nice to meet some of the people I've been corresponding with, putting faces to names etc. See you there. John
