John, Here are some photos of my pride and joy for your site if you'd like to show them. I have also included pictures of my recently purchased NWS footplate risers, as well as mesh installed in the fairing vents, which some people have asked me for. I spoke to you a few weeks ago concerning stickers with the website name on them. I have ordered some but the turn around is a couple of weeks. I will forward some photos when they arrive, also with details of prices for singles, ten's and hundreds(?????if anyone's got that much space on their fairing) Best Regards

I know it's not about an SV but I do own one aswell!! (or the wifie does should I say) (see Mark's article last month on lowering the SV) Just to post in current data cos it's disappearing fast on general discussions Well to cap a wonderful day off. Yesterday morning got up thought I would use the ZRX11 to go to work on and found a puncture in the new rear tyre (only been on 500 miles bum! Used the 250 instead. At work got a call to say the internal job I applied for has been filled but I am at the top of the list....blah blah blah etc. Come home call RAC to temp repair Puncture (thanks to Carole Nash who's Insurance comes with Rac cover) That gets finished at about 9.00 and quick scoot round the web off to bed. HER indoors gets up about 6 to make a cup of coffee (bless her )and informs me the 11 has been nicked . Out of me garage locked and alarmed garage no less. So if you get offered or see or hear of a RED ZRX 1100 Y494HDN been offered or any bits for sale. It is alpha dotted. Go to http://www.glasswell.freeserve.co.uk to see some pictures of it. Well we will see if Carole Nash are up to the job and I will keep you all informed. Please any info let me know (yes I know not much hope) Because I have a sharp knife to cut arms of and also am a 1st dan black belt and want some target practice cos i'm going to do my 2nd dan exam soon! Resigned to not seeing it again. but the good thing is I can now look at buying an SV for ME and save riding the wifies! TIA Mark Sorry to hear about this Mark. How on earth did they get past the alarms etc. Hope you don't have too much hassle with the claim. John |

Hi John , nice to see the board is still going strong. In message board thread 4304 I said I would post some photo's of my R&G crash protectors fitted to my SV650s with lowers. I will have to send them one at a time because the server does not seem to handle them otherwise, even zipped up. All the best Regards Shaun |

Just mailing to see if anyone can help me with a problem on my SV. I think the SV is a great bike, I could have spent a lot more and not been as pleased! But after owning it for 1 year from new (and not using it in winter) the fork legs are very corroded. The lacquer must be extremely thin and/or not stick on very well. Also my rear seat come off when I was riding it a few days ago, I may not have clipped it on properly but I had covered a few miles before it came off, and when I enquired about a new seat at my local dealer they knew the price straight away without looking it up which may indicate that this has happened before. Many times! So beware. So the questions are 1) Has any body had similar problems with forks and made a warranty claim and was it successful? {the forum is full of such claims and I believe some people have had their forks replaced under warranty} 2) Has anybody had a similar seat problem and have they managed to re-cover it (I did manage to find the seat but the cover was damaged)? {shouldn't be to hard to do, I think the cover is just stapled on. Getting matching material might be the hard bit} 3) Does anyone have a rear seat they don't want (unlikely but if you don't ask you don't get) {again the forum is a good place to try, look in the for-sale board}. Although I didn't use the bike over winter I have still managed to cover over 9500 miles including travel to work, every day not just special 'ride to work' days, whatever that's supposed to mean (why does anybody have a bike and not ride to work every day it's so much easier and more fun).{good question, I really resent it, when I have to use the car} Cheers Merlin |

--------------------------------------Stop Press PLEASE READ-------------------------------------- John, I've been swamped! I've done a couple of these before and never had such a strong response. I've got more than enough people to choose from - at the moment at least! Any chance you could post a message asking people to hold off until further notice? Cheers, Adam Looks like we made an impression! Well Done. Hold fire on the emails for now. I guess that Adam will want sift through the replies and get a good cross section of SV's and Owners [John]
July Offer from Adam Morrissey of MCN Adam.Morrissey@emap.com John, My name's Adam Morrissey (as you'll see from the address). I'm a feature writer for MCN and I'm putting together a feature on the SV650 for an issue in the near future. I need to get in touch with owners to help out with this. Do you have a lot of UK members? If not, read no further. If you do, I'm looking for SV owners of all shapes and sizes, sexes and ages to get together at Bruntingthorpe. The idea is not to race them, but to use that as a place for us to talk about the SV and so on. And whoever wants to can ride as fast as they fancy, in a police-free environment, as a sort of bonus. We're looking for all kinds of bikes too - from bog-stock, fresh from the crate to million-mile courier machines, beloved show-pieces and trick as hell track-day specials. In return, we'll feed and water them, let them loose on a closed track and maybe throw in a tour of our offices if there's time or they fancy. If you can help with this, please let your members know. They can contact me via this e-mail address for more details. Thanks, Adam Well guys and girls, its not every day you get an invite like this. I can't tell you any more than this at the moment, such as the date. I guess Adam will want to gauge your interest before committing time and sandwiches to this venture. I'm up for it. John Followup email from Adam. Thanks for your help with this. I've had a big response already (about 25, some from our site, many from yours). You'd be welcome along, of course! I'm working on this now and I'll send you details when I get it nailed down. It'll need to be in the next two weeks to fit in with our plans, and probably a weekday. This is the list of people that have cc'd their emails to me. Mike Spray, Andy Moore, Mark D Horridge, Stephen Hayes, Dave Armstrong, Druid, Lee Ball, Damien Keys, Warren Isaacs, Michael.Eustacem Iain Muir, Ian Stones, Darren Lissaman. keep em coming.

July 16th from David
Forster.
Hi john. Two things first I had a break down. Stupid really but it highlighted a problem with SV electrics. The battery in my alarm fob is down & I could not de-activate the alarm as the bike was at a building I work in I did not want to unbolt side panels & seat. I know if the battery voltage drops too low the alarm resets to factory default & need the fob re detected (discovered last winter when the cold killed the battery). Here it is then I put the front wheel against the wall put the bike into first & pressed the starter in this instance the battery did not go low enough however the fuse blew (this should not have happened as the starter is not on the fuse circuit). Here is the problem when I pulled the fuse & replaced it I noticed power coming on then off. On diagnosing this fault to the Main fuse carrier (built into solenoid) I ended up disassembling the carrier. The removal of the fuse had snapped the carrier off the feed bus this was because the solenoid is on the right hand side of the bike in front of the rear wheel also water & salt is thrown onto is & as Suzuki decided not to seal the unit it corrodes internally. Also I have just posted the following on the notice board which should save so owners a few quid. Second, I have noticed a lot of posts about a 700 cc kit with a few references to JHS kit. I noticed they use Wiseco kits for £325. Eastwood racing are the Wiseco importers so I phoned them & the Wiseco kits (pistons rings circlips gudgeon pins gaskets) are around £204. Look at www.wiseco.co.uk & if you are the other side of the pond it will be cheaper as Wiseco are a US company. |

July 15th from Christopher
Bair svbair@peak.org regarding the
fairing on Daves bike below.
It was a bit hard to find, but here's a link to the fairing shown in the July 12th archive posting. I'm sure there was a few people wondering where they could get one. I converted the pounds to $$ and came up with $52! Sounded almost too cheap to me. I'm not sure how much for shipping or VAT. I don't even know what VAT is either. I think it states that the fairing is suitable for up to 125 cc because (and this is a guess) it doesn't put a "legal" enough amount of light for the local area. http://www.bbbikeshop.co.uk/acatalog/Browse___Best___Buy_Headlight_Fairing_Units_Screens_79.html Chris from Oregon. |

July 10th From John Tansey
on the Scott steering damper
Hi, The attached is a technical report that I assembled after discovering a manufacturing flaw and potential safety hazard with Scott's Dampers on SV650 s-model bikes. I believe it is pertinent that all SVriders are aware of this situation. I would appreciate it if you could post the attached somewhere on sv650.org I want to make it very clear that in keeping with the high quality of their products, Scotts Performance is working on a resolution to fit the damper to the sv650s-model triple clamp. Scotts Performance intends to have the kit correctly fitted very soon. In hindsight, maybe it would be best to let all the sv riders/racers know that, if they have installed a Scotts kit on an s-model, that they may wish to call Scotts Performance to ensure that the kit was installed correctly. I am glad to see that Scott Forward has recognized this problem and intends to resolve it as soon as possible. Contact info may be found on the Scotts website: www.scottsonline.com Questions for Scotts performance should be addressed to the following: attn: Steve Zollinger through the email of jake@scottsperformance.com and scott@scottsperformance.com Please don't hesitate to address questions to my home email: jptansey@cisunix.unh.edu [John] I also got this from Scott himself Scotts also makes a special version bracket kit that accommodates the SV's using the tank spacers to allow more air in. We are custom building these brackets at the moment but plan to include these as production part numbers soon based on the demand. Attached is a photo of the latest Ducati Triple clamp and stabilizer release. Best Regards, Scott [John] If anyone wants to see the Ducati clamp, drop me a line. To echo what John Tansey has said, please contact Scott if you have any concerns about your installation. |

July 3rd Fill yer Holes from
Steve George steve.george@smgee.co.uk
Hi John Since I sent you some pictures of my bike, I have had a few e-mails asking me how I filled the holes that are left when the grab-rail is removed. Now I have managed to get a few pics, I thought I would send you some info, should anyone else be sad enough to want to try this! In case any readers aren't aware, the "official" (nee TCP) seat cowl is really designed to be fitted with the grab-rail in place on the bike. If you decide to remove the grab-rail, you are left with a couple of horrible triangular holes (see pic 1_hole.jpg). As there appears to be nothing on sale in the UK to fill these holes, and being an engineer and a skinflint at heart, I decided to have a go at making something myself! After a few failed attempts, I settled on the following (for each side): I cut a piece of aluminium sheet to act as a base-plate, and shaped it to fit loosely into the space where the grab-rail is bolted onto the bike. I then drilled a hole in it so it could be attached using the original grab-rail fixing bolt. I actually did all this on a bit of cardboard first, then when I was happy I copied it in aluminium. A loose fit is better, to give you a bit of adjustment. Next, it was a case of finding something to fix to the base plate that would actually blank off the triangular hole. I wanted a reasonable fit, to try and follow the curves of the tail piece. I tried lots of things, like bits of plastic, car body fillers and fibre-glass, but they were all too difficult to shape or looked crap. I then got some expanding foam, the sort that comes in an aerosol and is used for filling gaps in buildings. Every DIY centre sells it. This stuff sticks to anything, and when it sets, it is very easy to sand into shape. So, by trial and error, I got a rough shape with the foam. To smooth it off and build up the final shape, I covered it with car body-filler, the two-part stuff you mix. This was actually the most time-consuming bit, building up the filler and sanding it back to the right shape. I can't describe the shape, just have a look at the pic (2_brackets.jpg). A quick squirt of primer, then time for the colour coat. I used an aerosol of Ford Ash Black pearlescent from Halfords, a bit of a guess really. The tail on the bike is kinda dark-grey, with a bit of a sparkle to it. The Ford colour isn't actually too bad a match. It needed a top coat of clear lacquer to bring up the shine. Have a look at the pics. The shape and colour aren't perfect, but a lot better than using a bit of black plastic, and from a few feet away the join isn't too obvious. The pics are better than all my words! Looks like a really professional job to me. I've never had much luck playing with filler and paint. Well done |

July 2nd From Lee Peacock leepeacock@mac.com
regarding an article in Performance Bike.
John Just in case you haven't seen it, this months 'Performance Bike' magazine has an article on the SV650. They hope to transform a 2nd hand SV into a Ducati 748 beating monster, which is nice. If it's anything like their previous "projects" it will get forgotten about in a couple of months and they will be a half built SV for sale! Only joking, should be a interesting project, specially as they wan to do it on the cheap. Thanks, I'll plan a trip to WHS |

July 1st Turn signal mods
from Eddie edgyver@mindspring.com
John, After seeing various LED turn signal add-ons, Hyper-lites and fun "gadgets" in general, I couldn't resist (pun not intended) the temptation of tonight's electrical project. I found a pair of license plate bolts with LEDs inside at my local Auto Zone parts store. After toying with them for a few days, I accidentally pulled one of the lights free from the hollow bolt. Then I had an idea: What if I mounted the bare LED in the back of my front turn signals? The SV650 was closest to the back porch and a power outlet. So, it was the test subject tonight. The idea would work on any stalk-mounted turn signal. So, the DL may be "next". I first cut the wires shorter on the LED lights and included the inline step-down resistor. It was simple enough to strip away some insulation of the signal wires behind the socket and solder into them there. The LED was a tight press fit into the hole I drilled and the signal reflector is up against it slightly to hold it in place. I used my ancient glob of "Silly Putty" to check the clearance. Laugh if you want. But, it worked! =D I saved the best part for last. The cost. $4.99 USD. Attached are small photos of the project for the web site, if you can use 'em. -eddie I'm now working out where you are going to put the fairy? John ;-) |

July 1st
I've been playing around with the look of the site this month. Hope you like it. Here we are half way through the year and the weather is still cool. At least the rain has eased off in the last few days. I've add an articles page to the menu for this month. I'd like to publish stories and other SV related items in this area, if you want to contribute then drop me a line. To kick things off, I've added Chris Bakers story on the MV-SV, lots of pics and Chris's own words on why and how he created the MV-SV. My own SV has been running well. I've just done a 12k mile service and I could not believe the price of an air filter....£23! Things didn't end there though, whilst cleaning the bike last Sunday I noticed that the rear shock had a fair amount of oil on it's lower half. Blown oil seal? I'm not sure. The bikes handles much the same, so I don't know if I've lost all the oil or just a bit. The first MOT is due in two weeks, so I had to sort something out.! Quotes for a new shock were £240 upwards, which is a touch on the rich side. Anyhow a nice chap called James Holland has sold me second hand one. That'll do for me, thanks James. |
