CURRENT POSTINGS  FOR  JULY  2001

20/07/01 -   Posting for July.....

I've not been able to make many updates to the site this month - apologies. I've been busy with work and travelling a lot. I am away on holiday/vacation next week and will not be able to update the site until the week commencing 6th August!

As a result please do not send me emails or for sale adverts until after the 6th August - I won't be able to post them and they will just clog up my email system. thanks in advance. Kevin.

20/07/01 -  Sarah's SV an image - thanks Sarah durdie@supanet.com

Love the site, thought you might like the picture of my rear end!!!! (The bike, Kev) Its a prototype Undertray that splits the tail light up and has built in triangle indicators. What do you think? I think you have a lovely rear end Sarah, if you need anyone to work on it just drop me a line  (it does look good, really...I'm sure you'll get a few requests from people wanting to know where to get one or how you made it)

20/07/01 -  An SV image - this from Rich rfhermann@hermanntds.com - thanks...

I've had my bike for about 5 months now, and still absolutely love it. Yes, I bought it in February when the average temp. in New Jersey, USA was around 30 degrees Fahrenheit. 30 degree's that's about double our summer time temperature!  Looking to put some mods on, but all in due time (baby and family come first).

20/07/01 - Is my SV a UK or a Import - an interesting question from Keith   keithritchie7@aol.com  - if you have an answer drop me an email please..

Sticker on frame.  Their is a sticker on the frame on most motorcycles with E4 (France) E2 (uk), etc. you can find that info in the factory service manual.

I have a UK SV with carb heaters so why has it got a E4 on it? only found this out as my mate has an import SV from D&K, and that has a E4 on it? So I asked my dealer were I got the bike first answer was it should have a E2 on  it they had a look around the show room to their horror some had E4 and E2 on them not just the SV. So they faxed Suzuki with me engine and frame numbers, they told the guy in the shop it is a uk model but said they couldn't fax it to him as it was on
the computer.  Said it was something to do with the free market in 1998.

Do you know why it has a E4 on it.  I don't, maybe someone reading this does.....?

17/07/01 -   Alarms questions from Peter peterj_obrien@hotmail.com  - if you have alarm info either contact Peter or send it to me (after the 6th Aug please...)

I really enjoy your site but can't seem to find enough information on 'Alarms' for bikes in general. One of my worst fears for a bike alarm is how much it can drain the battery. Also can you fit a bike alarm yourself or would you have to fork out to get the dealer to fit it?

In short do you have any useful links for this sort of information.

17/07/01 -   Doyou know how to wheelie? - If so please tell Ryan benz17@telus.net - thanks...

Just wondering how the easiest way to pull wheelies on an unmodified sv is. I know its not safe and highly illegal but I really want to learn just to say I can. Totally understand if you feel a moral obligation to your readers not to hand out info on such matters. ( but I reeeeeeeeealy want to learn how )  I can't help you, I'm to heavy to wheelie my bike (and too chiken!)..

17/07/01 -   Fairing query -if you can help contact Kaiser cmb4@hotmail.com

I am very interested in this front fairing on the bike in this picture. Do you know who makes this fairing or at the very least the owner of the bike so I may e-mail him and ask him about it. I am in the U.S. if it makes any difference.

17/07/01 -   New fairing for SV - Thanks to Mike mistok@3dimensional.com  for sending these in - looks good...

Here are pictures of my SV with the full fairing from Airtech. I absolutly love it! I receive complements on it from other riders, where ever I go. Airtech did a great job developing this fairing making look unlike anything else out on the road. It is as functional as it is stylish. It keep me well out of the wind even well into the triple digits.

06/07/01 -   SV service manual available for download - thanks Ben benjamingray@hotmail.com

I posted this link on both boards and someone suggested I email it to you. It's a link to a free .pdf version of the SV650 service manual! It's huge and takes forever to print, but it is free. Please feel free to post or use it however you like. Dispite the address, it is NOT a porn site.

PS: I found the link on the svrider board.

thanks for that Ben, I have downloaded the manual and can vouch that its not a porn site....never mind..more luck next time!  ;- )

06/07/01 -   New full body kit for SV - this from Rob at svrider.com

I have been quite instrumental in getting this bodywork made. In fact, until I approached Armour Bodies they were not even interested in making SV bodywork
- well now there are several options to choose from including the new fully faired version.

The first photos of our full bodywork can be seen at http://svrider.com/svfullbody

I tried to list some information on that page but if there are any other questions please email me (svrider@svrider.com). Pricing will most likely be the same as the other full sets $799 U.S. / $999 CDN for the upper, lower, fender and tail. Upper in either race or street. A bracket kit for the lower will also be made available for around $30 - $40 U.S. All sales go through my other bike site http://www.2wheeljunkie.com

We are not making any provisions for the naked SV650 bikes, sorry.

06/07/01 -   Passing through Switzerland? try this.... thanks to stu Stuart.Thomson@nestle.com

Went to this when it was run 3 years ago and it was pretty good with lots of old racing bikes and interesting old racing cars, on a course like olivers mount in scarborough .  In anybody is touring through it would be worth a stop

I replied to Paul saying sounded like his bike was restricted to 33bhp!  anyone else help him out please email him...

01/07/01 -   I finished.

This morning I finished the National Rally at Gaydon National Heritage Motor Museum (Oxfordshire) and attained a Silver award. I completed 410 map miles, 665 real road miles and was knackered (still trying to stay awake!). The rain held off although I was cold most of the night wearing my summer two-piece leathers and 3 layers of clothes, should have worn my winter jacket.  Only real problem was at a control in Reading that should have been there but wasn't. At 2 a.m. this morning, after questioning a garage attendant, four police (two in an unmarked Omega getting petrol) we gave up and went to next control for them to verify we actually did visit the correct place in Reading. It was good watching the sun go down...even better watching it come back up again.

My sincere thanks to all nine (yes, nine from all the readers of this web) of you who took the trouble to support me in doing the Rally. With your substantial help, and other sponsorship I collected at work etc, I managed to raise £330 for MENCAP. I really do appreciate it very much - THANK YOU!!

29/06/01 -   I need your help

The time has come for me to ask you for help. You may know from postings within the Forum that Sat 30th June I'm participating in the British  Auto Cycle Union National Rally which runs from 14:00 on the 30th to 07:30 the following morning (Sunday 1st July). The objective is to cover as many map* miles as possible for the category of the event which you've entered (there are other rules that I won't go into). I'm doing the event (for 3rd time) with a mate who's running a BMW GS1100. We aim for a Silver award (400 to 500 map* miles), a Gold award at best and a finish at worst.

I am looking for your support in that I plan to raise money for MENCAP by doing the event. As well as looking for sponsorship locally to me I am asking any readers of this site who feel they would like to support me (and hence MENCAP) to donate a sum of money however small or large. I feel the best way to go about this is either:

1) make a donation directly to MENCAP using their secure online donation at  http://www.mencap.org.uk (follow the "make a donation" link) and drop me an email to say how much you donated and your name (so I can thank you personally!). Please include the word MENCAP in the email title. (This is my preffered option because its less work for me and you).

If you are outside the UK then you'll have to calculate the exchange rate and adjust your donation accordingly - use the Currency Converter at http://www.xe.com/ucc/

OR

2) send me an email pledging a sum of money and your name - I would then get back to you after the event and supply my postal address to where a cheque / postal order etc could be sent. I'll then collect all replies and make the combined donation to MENCAP. Please include the word MENCAP in the email title.

If you are outside the UK then option 1) above is by far the easiest way to donate.

As you know I charge nothing for the use of this site and make no money from it. If you've ever thought you'd like to say a small 'thanks' for the effort I put into sv650.org then now's your chance.......and I promise I won't ask for anymore money until this time next year! ; -)

I can be contacted at kevin@sv650.org.   I will post all details of amount raised.  If you're not interested in helping out thanks for reading this anyway.

Thanks in advance,

Kevin

* map miles are distances between A and B specified by the organisers. In the vast majority of cases the actual road miles is always a lot more than map miles so the actual road miles covered will nearer 550-700 (depending on how many times I get lost).
