Jan 23 - Eliminator

Hi John,

Here's a few pics of my bike with the new number plate hanger from Evolution Composite, it's a complete carbon job, which fits straight in place of the old wind breaker no drilling or cutting required.

They also planning to extend the range soon.

Jan 23 - Hello from Washington State

Hey,

A couple pics of a chick's bike (well, mine) for the January page. It's the angle of the lower front fairing and the fender eliminator kit..
. Who makes the kit?

Thanks!
Kelly

A follow up message from Kelly

Hey John,

I got the fender eliminator from a vendor of www.svrider.com . They are at www.2wheeljunkie.com , and they have ton of SV additions.

The indicators are up under there; clear covers, orange bulbs. And might I say MUCH more attractive than the standard ALIEN ARM signals Suzuki blessed us with. There's an elim kit made by Suzuki now, which is a way easier install, but not as pretty (and uses those hideous stock signals). The one at 2wheeljunkie has info here:

http://www.2wheeljunkie.com/store/instructions/FSD_03SVundertray.html

That link has great pics of the mods made to the bike for the install, and it steals a bit of room from the trunk. But let's face it, there wasn't much room there to being with. Highly recommended; it's a tight look. I believe I paid a couple hundred with the color match.

Jan 23 - Hello from Greece

Hi to all SV-owners. I have chosen to buy one sv650s 4 and half years ago, because of the information I found on this website. If it weren't for this webpage, I would have bought a Fazer 600 (Brrr!!!). I just want to say thank you, almost 5 years and 90.000 Km later. I am still in love with my SV and I still use it to play hard games in the streets with bigger and faster bikes!! It is the best bike to learn on..I am sorry to learn about Kevin.

Keep up the good work
Manolis

Jan 20 - Chuffed from Cheltenham

Jan 20 - Eurotour 2004 update from Steve Jelly

Hi John, happy new year to you,

Good to see the forum back up and running. It's only when it's down and I start getting emails from people I realise how popular the site really is. Hope you have all the technical problems sorted now, be interested to know what the problem was.(not a week I want to remember. See my announcement in the forum for the sorry story)

Anyway, down to business. Am getting closer to completing the arrangements for "Eurotour" 2004. We'll be leaving on the evening of 27th May, staying overnight in Calais, starting the 377 miles to Besancon at 9am. I have sourced a hotel, which is 55 Euro per night for a twin room, so 2 sharing for 4 nights is about £80.

I have posted a file on my site at the following location

http://www.cyfc.co.uk/ftp/tour.zip  (or on this site here 1.3Mb)

It contains:
Itinerary
Directions from Calais to Besancon
Details of some of the towns we intend to visit
3 tours with maps - you will need "proper" maps, these are just a guide.

I will be contacting P&O by phone this weekend, confirming what discounts we can get, but at the moment it's £46 return

The hotel in Besancon wants 10 Euro per room per night as a deposit, which isn't bad.

I am asking for a deposit of £100 per person. That will cover the ferry cost, plus the hotel deposit with a bit left over to go towards the hotel fees.

If you could post this info up on the main site I would appreciate it.

Regards,
Steve

Ros, glad to hear you did so well in the Italian Supertwins. My congratulations to both riders. I guess you are aiming for the title next year.

Jan 3 - Sk3 Lowers

Hi John,
I stumbled onto your site about a week ago. Nice site, hope it prospers! I just installed the factory lower fairing on my SV and thought I'd send you the pics. I cut the size down on the pics so I could get 2 in this e-mail. I'm not the exactly a great photographer, and I had to rush during a break in the rain to take them (you'll note the brick under the kickstand to keep it from sinking in the dirt), but I hope you'll enjoy them anyway.

Thanks and Happy New Year,
Ray

Jan 1 - Converting a 2003 SV650 into a race bike.

John,

While I have been in the middle of converting my 2003 for the racetrack, I thought I would document the steps required to get it to race worthiness. I have attached a Word file which you should be able to convert to any format you need. Sorry no pictures but the bike is still in bits so if anyone wants anything specific it would be pretty easy to do.

Hope someone else finds this useful.

Jan 1 - Two new wallpapers in the goodies section

Jan 1

It's common to think about the last 12 months at this time of year. In doing so I'm reminded of how much has happened and of a story that I've not shared until now.

Back in April, I got a chance to visit MCN again and test drive the new SV1000. Obviously I was quite exited about this and it was a very enjoyable day. The bit that has stayed with me though is the tips that I got from Dave, one of the MCN test riders and ex BSB rider. His tips have stayed in my head every since and my riding style has changed because of this. So what am I doing differently. I ride with the balls of my feet on the edge of the footpegs and I move my body weight a lot more. I don't necessarily hang off on corners but I do shift to the left or right to help the bike turn. Just goes to show that after 30 years of riding, there is still something to learn. Kev was envious that I got this chance. I remember telling him the details on my return and sharing the photos. He was killed a few days later.

Also in April, almost at the same time. I got an email from Nick Avery of Carlton TV.  They were planning to do a test drive on the SV1000 for the Pulling Power series and wanted to add some background to the article about how popular the SV650 had become. The wanted me to put them in touch with some SV owners for filming. Luckily I had a list of email addresses from people who had bought Site stickers. I chose a fairly mixed bunch of young, old, male and female people, based in the London and West Midlands area. The details were sent off and we waited and waited.  I chased Nick for an update. Apparently the SV that had been promised to the program had been totalled by one of the magazines and a spare wasn't available for that time slot. The time slot was important because the tester/presenter had limited availability, possibly James Allen. Anyhow nothing more was heard and that was that.....shame.

The annual rideout was a hoot as usual. Steve Jelly, Mark Horridge and the rest of the team did a great job in organising this event. Thanks chaps. I still have my official pass pinned to my notice board as a memento. Pity there wasn't many photos of the event but we had fun, the weather held and we raised some charity money.

In July Wayne Walker did his Lands End to John O'Groats trip. The numbers involved didn't get as large as Wayne hoped but he had a good time and again raised a lot of money for charity. I'm just so sad that he was killed a few months later. Another black day.

I tend to see this time of year as the doldrums. I can only look forward to the coming spring. I do have my annual service and spring clean to perform on the SV, but this has got easier over the years thanks to the gradual replacement of substandard parts. I'll be shopping in January for a new back tyre , a chain and some sprockets. I have a set of Ohlins fork springs to fit and if funds permit I might replace the front brakes hoses.

In January I usually attend the Autosport show at the NEC, with my London friend Neil. It's mainly 4 wheels but I have bumped into a few bike celebs there. Two years ago I got John Reynolds photo, just after he became BSB champion. I managed to delete it by accident afterwards. Doh!  Worth a visit if you an obsessed petrol head like me.

In February this site celebrates it's 5th year. I should do something special, so I've booked the Cafe Royal in London along with a few celebs for a knees up.

I hope the coming year is good to you all. Spare a thought for those that didn't make it.
