25/04/01 - Kind words and looking for riders from the South west - this from Keith keith.chidley@vistasupport.com

Thanks for this site Kev. I was advised to look it up by someone on the MCN website. I hope to get to your ride-out this year. Is there anyway of posting a request to see if there is anyone else coming from the south west, Somerset or Bristol so we could meet up on route. well? if you are then why not get in touch with Keith and sort something out?  Cheers for this. The site is most appreciated       thanks for the comments - they are all read and do make it worthwhile.....

24/04/01 - SV, TRX and VFR images - thanks to Ian anne-marie@luty68.freeserve.co.uk

Just a short line to say anybody wanting a good all round tyre should consider Bridgestone BT020 I've just had to replace my rear after 8400 miles. So good that that I've bought another, and my sister changed to them on her TRX 850..

P. S here are some pics. of our family, Sisters TRX, my SVS and my wife's VFR400

Just wanted to contribute my "baby" pictures for your excellent site.

I hope to have a Renegade twin can pipe on it soon and if anyone has images of early Suzuki logos please send 'em as I want to grind off the tank stickers and have the old logo "ghosted" on either side.

I hate stickers :-(

24/04/01 - SV bicycle mount - many thanks to Sacha shenchman@hotmail.com for these weird images of the latest in SV usefulness! You just know you need one of these.....

thought readers might be interested in my creation...my latest manifestation of insanity--getting there can be half the fun (& crashing twice as expensive)...

24/04/01 - Surging cure, balance your carbs - Peter valente.peter@carillionplc.com got to work on his SV and came up with a cure...

It's been a while since I saw mention of this on the site. My dealer did something unspecified at the second service which improved matters slightly but I have just lived with it so far. Now that the warranty is up I have got in about it myself ( in 30 years of motorcycling this bike has been my only experience of having "the professionals" work on any of my machines and it has been an eye opener).

I have never before come across a pair of carbs so far out of balance - I don't know how the bike was running as well as it was. Setting the carbs up properly has completely cured the surging and the bike now pulls smoothly from absolutely nothing. Presumably they all come in as badly set up judging from the complaints.

My mod to cure the fork clonk did not work, has anyone got to the  bottom of this yet? heavier oil and springs?

24/04/01 - Another SV sold - thanks for the kind words James jamesbarros@hotmail.com

Man, you really need to start getting commission on these things. I know, I know! I picked up my blue 2001 S yesterday at 4 after drooling at your site for about a year. I'll send you some pic's once there's something non standard about it, but its prolly going to be stock for a while. More than enough bike to play with.

If anyone had told me it out handed my GS500 I would have laughed at them. I can't believe how well behaved it is. Well, Thanks for all the advice and tips. I appreciate the board, and tell Suzuki to give you a bike, your making sales all the way out here in California. I'll tell you what...you guys tell Suzuki to send me a t-shirt because that might, just might, be the only thing I will get off them!

24/04/01 - Fairings section updated.

18/04/01 - More ride-out information for the 13th May - thanks to Chris Chris.Dooley@btinternet.com for his local knowledge...

Harly's diner (next to M&P) (also known as Fox's Diner) will be the best place to meet up - it's a major meeting place for bikers. The food is excellent and the portions
immense. The cafe and M&P has enough parking for all the weekend bikers in the area so that should not be a problem. The only caution is that the police do gatso from the bridge immediately before the cafe -

If you're coming up from reading you'll go through Benson then through a 30 limit village and then the road opens up into what should be 2 lanes either way but is in fact a single lane. Watch the bridge....  you have been warned...  see link at page top for more info...

18/04/01 - SV handlebars - thanks to Terry tphil@buckeyeweb.com for the info...

Check out www.suburban-machinery.com  for bolt on "clip-on" handlebars for the SV.

15/04/01 - Carb Icing problems and the misfire - an update from Jed Lynjed@aol.com

Read your note about how investigations where going in april regarding misfires in cold weather.

I have had over 50 owners so far contact with missing carb heaters from all parts of the world. Still awaiting a response from Suzuki - they are bloody slow. I believe the two events are not related - the SV has clear problems for some owners with a misfire in the wet - personally I use a jet wash every week on mine and it runs fine. Most owners who suffer this just change the plug and slop WD40 everywhere for a cure.

The carb icing is different - anybody suffering it will just know!  I will continue pursuing this until I have an answer - mine goes in next week for them fitting free of charge (via importer not Suzuki) - I wish I could say the same for other owners who have had disgusting treatment - including two fingers from the big "S".

I would appreciate if you could change the link for the misfire from pointing to the forum, instead it wants to aim to the section in the march data (5th) titled carb icing problems. done..  As spring approaches I expect the number of owners replying will die down as even mine is running perfect now. Still I,ve started so I will finish.
I have been away a bit and will be away again soon but as soon as I am back I will make it top priority. Thanks Jed!

15/04/01 - Chinese SV - thanks to Oz v for this image

I'm sure you didnt miss the article at www.motorcyclenews.com   on China's new SV-style 743cc, 90bhp twin. To be sold in the near future for 2500 pounds UK. It's a brave new world.

15/04/01 - G-Force 3/4 system and other mod pics - thank to Steven stephen.t.rowe@bt.com for these...

Find attached, images showing mods to my SV650S all purchased from, 'The Bike Shop' Newcastle-Under-Lyme, Staffs (Tel:  01782 719500) : -

Pyramid Plastics Seat Cowl £95 and carbon look Fenda Extenda £18 www.pyramid-plastics.co.uk/pyramid_plastx.html
Rear carbon look Hugger £60
Oxford small Digital clock £10 (not shown)
G-Force 3/4 Alloy system £230 www.g-forcemotorcycle.fsbusiness.co.uk

I have not had a dyno test on my bike but G-Force supplied me with a chart claiming a power increase of 7bhp (10%) with this system of over OE system. It is also much lighter. The bike pulls well all through the rev range and sounds awesome. It took 30 mins to remove OE system and 30 mins to fit new system, just in time to join a local charity rally of some 3000+ bikes to collect Easter Eggs and donations for children's charities.

15/04/01 - Seat Cowl advice and info from Tim timleavy@hotmail.com

a while ago i was looking for a seat cowl that was more rounded then the usual MPS etc types. I found this company in Germany. The beauty of it is the prices are in Euros, which i think is around 2 to the £ at the moment.  The only problem i had with delivery was when the parcel got to the usk and it confused the royal mail!, this was partly due to having payment  ready on delivery, so i would recommend paying the money direct o bikesides account. The chap in Germany will be very helpful and will give out his details for payment via the email.

note: If anybody is wanting to get a seat cowl you will have to do one of two things. It does not come with the mechanics to attach to the lock so you can make up a L shape bracket, fit original lock to the bracket, and then bolt the bracket to the cowl via the 2 bolts of the cowl padding. OR you can scrap the lock altogether and use a DZUZ panel fastener. either will work.

im sorry the pics are more than 100kb (256/257kb) but i didn't want to lose any more detail. i hope the images come out ok, if not or you need smaller images, please email me back and i will re do them.  no, they're ok for this sort of thing otherwise, as you say, the detail is lost...

My friend Ivo told me about your homepage. I've to admit it's very interesting! I'm surprised to see how many variations of SV650 one can create.

Attached you'll find some images of my SV650 Streetfighter. All parts are from Team Métisse. It would be a great honour to see my 'Yellow Mellow' in your gallery.  and it's an honour to have you Meister Röhrich  petbomber@yahoo.com

13/04/01 - SV Accessories - Gary gslater@hypermax.net.au sends in some pics for all...

Just sending some images that mat be of interest.

a. The Fly Srceen is from a Triumph Thunderbird Sport, repaint to match . Fitted on with no mods required.
b. Fork Protectors are from the some Triumph model and also fitted on without mods.
c. Radiator Screen Protector is from a 1992 Suzuki Bandit 250. Only had to straighten and shorten the mounting tabs to make it fit.

I hope this gives others an idea of what is around on other models and makes that may if on the sv 650.

13/04/01 - Crashed  - oh dear... Vince vincent@wgtheatertechniek.nl was hit...

This beautiful bike is not to be seen anymore! Some dude decided to turn left, while I was riding to the left of his very small car. In my fall both sides of the bike hit the ground and is total loss.

A new SV650N is not fore sale in Holland this year, so I have to buy an other bike. My extenda fenda and rear tirecover are spared, but I can't use theme on a new bike, so if anyone is interested, let me know.

06/04/01 - Ride-out Information

The Start / Finish and route details for the ride-out are now in the Ride-out section.

04/04/01 Start / End place for Ride-out - see above Ride-out link for more information

I've been informed that there is a M&P outlet and a bikers cafe on the A4074 between Oxford and Reading. This sounds like a good place to meet up and start/end. Does anyone know the name or telephone number of the Bikers Cafe there? If you do please let me know.

04/04/01 Replacement keys - Much thanks to Tony TonyP2020@aol.com for this information

There is now a Silca (make) key blank available for the Sv650. The number is SZ14RAP. Any shop which cuts key should be able to get hold of it.  Info added to F.A.Q.

03/04/01 - Looking for information on fitting frame sliders with lower fairing...please contact Greg gallgreg@hotmail.com if you can help...

I am looking for frame sliders, protectors, or whatever else you want to call them for my SV650S. The only problem is that I have a TechLine lower fairing and this prevents me from being able to mount them on.

Well, actually the ones I have seen, will fit the right side of the bike, but not the left since a bracket that holds up the lower fairing is the same location for the puck. Any other info on SV riders who have lower fairings and frame sliders? Pics would be great, or just general info on a
company that produces them and contact information would be greatly appreciated.

03/04/01 - Suspension modification info from Dave dsc@bushinternet.com

Just thought id let you know of a good relatively cheap suspension mod from Hyperpro. 'the combi kit' for the SV includes a progressive shock spring, progressive fork springs and 20w oil and costs £150. Since fitting i have a lot more confidence throwing the bike into corners than before as the front end feels more positive and planted to the road and the rear feels plush but not wollowy. i hope this is of some interest to you.

02/04/01 - Labels off advice required by Sophie sophieg@home.com

I just got the chance to do the first waxing job on my baby. I took all the warning labels off the fairings with a hair dryer, which worked really well; however with the label on the gas tank I'm having trouble, the label fell to pieces and I'm asking you for advice before I screw up...

Please advise.  please let Sophie know how you got your labels off without scratching the paint work...thanks..

02/04/01 - Cylinder misfire problems (again) - David davidpotts50@hotmail.com is experiencing a fairly common SV problem...

Recently been having problems with the front cylinder on my SV cutting out, especially after washing the bike and, to a degree, during a wet ride.  Also present was a cylinder (presumably the front) "missing a beat" every 15 - 30 seconds or so. Occasionally the motor would stall as the cylinder would cut out a couple of times in quick succession.

The situation has been remedied (I hope!- a downpour today has bourn this out) by changing the plugs, tightening the Low Tension crimp connections to the Front Cylinder Coil (follow the HT lead to the coil, situated on the nearside frame rail) by taking them off and crimping them a little tighter, using a pair of pliers (then putting them back on, of course!), and dousing the lot in WD40. Feedback please...

Jerry (Lynjed@aol.com) how did your investigation into the cold weather problems go? Is this problem related? From what I've heard the course of action that David has undertaken usually sorts the problem out..

02/04/01 - SV Images from Gabriele gabrielef@dsnet.it

02/04/01 - A GSX-R SV? Well almost! - great images from Tim timleavy@hotmail.com ...

please find attached x 2 pics of my SV. Bought last June, the paint job is by dream machine in Nottingham (UK). It came with the lower fairing, and decals (sv650R. Ive but on a single seat cowl from a German company. I first tried a MHP carbon can, it was very light, but the carbon dis-coloured and then finally went brittle and fell apart!. Its now got a re sleeved titanium can, with a high level kit. it is VERY LOUD, and sets off car alarms. Nice.

ps. good site, lots of help for deciding what tyres to get next good and thanks...
