July 1 - Witch Bike?
This bike was bought as a standard SV in May 2002 before my wife Bev passed her test. I fitted the can, rad grill, bellypan, undertray, solo seat, clear tail light and had the flying witches done ready for her to ride when she passed her test, which she did in Aug 2002. Then Bev went into hospital for a major op in June 2003 so the bike came to bits and I had a think about what I was going to do with the bike I had a few ideas but was a little unsure what Bev wanted 'Witchy' to look like so she had no say about it and I got started by taking the frame, wheels, forks and swinger to be polished along with various bits to be chromed. When every thing came back, off went the wheels, bottom yolk and chain adjuster plates for painting and the panels and helmet for air brushing. The polished frame lived under the bed for about 5 months before all the hard work and expense started in early march putting Witchy back together again. I picked the air brushing up on 23rd April and the bike passed its MOT the day after (what a long day the 23rd was, sure it was 50 hours long that day). All the parts were bought through C.M.C in Chesterfield except the can and rad grill which came direct from Scorpion (when bike was stripped the carbon sleeve was very badly damaged and was fully rebuilt by them free of charge and posted back for free after i dropped it off at the factory). The head lights and screen were from Streetfighter Store. The engine is left as standard at the moment but might do something with it this winter. I fitted Goodridge hoses, Braking rear and Galfer front wavy discs. Renthal bars and polished brace. One off front indicator bracket, one rad cap, stainless steel rear suspension lowering plates, back chopped and raised, extended side panels, loads of other bits and boba, all wiring mods and lots and lots of polishing by me. Standard paintwork by my mate Pete at Derbyshire Accident Repair Center, all art work by K.E.L Chesterfield 01246 261355, polishing by A.J. Calladine 01623 870327. If you print this feel free to change it around or contact me for some in depth info cos the spec changes on a weekly basis (just fitted the front discs and more polishing to-night) and say a big thanks to all the staff at C.M.C 01246 559900 and Brian Robinson from Scorpion 01773 513730. Phil Bradbury PS Witchy is hopefully going to win a few
prizes in july got her entered for Strong survive on 4th july on the A6 between Nothing I can add to this. The pictures speak for themselves. Marvelous. |

July 1
Well June's been a busy month. The annual rideout has already been mentioned extensively in the forum, as have photos and comments. Not much has been forwarded to me for inclusion on the main site, so that is looking very thin. The success of the new forum accounts for that, as readers can paste their photos there. The downside it that the data will eventually roll off and be lost. BigApes unfortunate accident once again showed what a great bunch you all are. The contributions for his fund got to a whisker under £800. The whole issue of having an ongoing 'misfortune fund' is full of traps for the unwary. Personally I can see it causing division and grief amongst us all, even if the cause is noble. Personally I can't take on any more work at the moment. This site isn't the problem, children are. Over the last few months I've been coerced into running a school boys football club. What a nightmare, red tape everywhere along with all sorts of rules and regulations. Still I'm getting to grips with it gradually. If there's any time after that, then I get dragged into the school PTA activities. Some old friends from London popped up to see me on their bikes a week or so ago. Of course it rained buckets and the planned trip into North Wales didn't happen. Instead went down to South Shropshire later in the day, Ludlow in fact. We all swapped bikes along the ride as you do. So I got to ride an R1 and a Bandit 1200...... The R1 was impressive, very quick, but hard work. The riding position is much more aggressive than the SV and steering much heavier. Giving it loads of stick and trying to get the thing turned was hard work. The engine was a peach, it would happily poodle through town if you could suffer the wrist ache. The R1 rider said much the opposite about the SV, light and comfy, easy to ride. The bandit was like riding an armchair. Big high bars and big seat. Luckily it was the faired version. Initially it was harder to get to grips with because the riding position was so different to the SV, It felt like a chopper, hands up high and feet out front. It was a nice comfy ride but a bit of a handful in the corners, more of a tourer than the other two. The Bandit owner felt the SV was too small for him (6',1") and commented on the heavy engine braking. I was quite glad to get back on the SV, it felt like a good compromise of the other two. The R1 owner is looking to sell his machine. He agrees with me that it is too single minded. It's a race bike converted for the road. He wants to keep the incredible power but in a less compromised package. I mentioned the Fazer 1000, but he feels that the de-tuned R1 engine would be a disappointment. Hope you like the cover shot. It was sent into me by Peter Henry in Marbella, Spain (thanks)........ Makes a change from digging something out of the archives. I've another shot lined up for August too John |
