Jan 21 Low life's strike again I got this email from Adam just a couple of days after posting the Boberman item below. Unfortunately the bike was stolen yesterday from its home in Leicester. Can you please put something on your website in case anyone sees it. My contact number is 07966 096 175. It is being dealt with by PC Jackson at Hamilton Police station, Leicester. I am absolutely gutted. Needless to say, if you can help Adam or police then it would be much appreciated. (That fairing is pretty distinctive) John |

Jan 17 Wiring a k3 clock to a
k1 bike Hi John, I recently did a conversion, fitting a K3 naked clock onto a naked K1. Although the clock is not "fully functional" I thought that it maybe useful to others who wish to do this mod. I have attached in word format, the wiring map to do this. Maybe you could add it to the site for others to see. Cheers Si. |

Jan 11 - Lost in France I don't normally post photos from anonymous people, but these images were so good I had to share them. I'd love to tell you more but that's the problem with these emails. The sender is suzgerard@wanadoo.fr , so I guess his english isn't so good. John |

Jan 11 - Special Offer Hi John, I've been a regular user of the site for a while now and have found it a very useful resource. In addition to being one of the cofounders of the MiniTwins race series I also run the www.biketrackdays.co.uk track day listing web site and the www.trackparts.co.uk site, which I use to sell GPR steering dampers and ABE wavy brake discs. As the main track day and racing support agent for GPR I have been able to negotiate a discount of 10% for members of the sv650.org web site. The steering dampers come in a range of colours including red, platinum, blue, gold, black, orange, green and purple. At the moment I have the fitting kits for the faired models and will be working with GPR to produce some kits for the unfaired bikes in the coming months. The list price is 299 pounds including the fitting kit. This might seem a lot when compared to many of the rivals on the market but having used them in racing I am convinced that they provide much better control than the alternatives. GPR steering dampers have been used by several of the leading MiniTwins racers as well as notching up SuperSport 600 championship wins, wins at the TT and Manx GP plus the Champion of Brands title for 2004. Several racers have commented that they have improved the stability of the bike under braking as well as under acceleration which must be unique to the GPR design as I have never heard it said about any of the other types. I have only been able to negotiate the 10% discount until the end of January. For this limited period I will be selling them for 269 pounds plus 5 pounds postage and packing. Should anyone wish to collect the damper from me in East London I will give them a hand to fit it to their bike. I can be contacted on 07775 - 833 965 or via info@trackparts.co.uk if that is easier. Regards, Mike |

Jan 11 - Ain't Misbehaving Hi John Just a few pictures of me showing off, if you could put them on your site that would be nice. I hope they are small enough, if not....'sorry'. Cheers Frosty Dave most of the pics were very similar and those that weren't were a bit blurred. I can't post every photo that is sent as I have to consider disc space, so I hope this will do. John |

Jan 2 Test stats John, I was doing some research on SVs and came across your site. I noticed you didn't have many performance stats, so I thought I throw you a link to our test of the SV, one of my favourite bikes. http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/Article_Page.aspx?ArticleID=790 Our 2004 model did an 11.85 @ 111.7 mph quarter-mile and topped out at 124.3 mph (which would work out to 130.5 mph if using a correction factor for barometric conditions). It took 3.57 seconds to go from 0-60 mph. It dynoed at 72.2 hp @ 9200 rpm and 46.4 lb-ft of torque at 7600 rpm. FYI, the SV is the winner of "Best Entry-Level Streetbike" and "Best Smiles Per Dollar" in our Best Of 2004 feature article that will be up on site later today. Best of luck in the New Year to ya, Kevin Duke Road Test Editor, www.MotorcycleUSA.com Thanks for that Kevin. I've added the link to my FAQ section |

Jan 2 Xmas in South Africa Greetings, Here's a Christmas greeting from South Africa. I have enclosed a pic of my 02 SV parked next to the pool on Christmas day ! For us December is in the middle of our riding season so we are able to enjoy a ride on Christmas day if we are able draw ourselves away from the xmas pud ! The second picture features the relocated rear brake reservoir from under the saddle (way too difficult to see and top up) to next to the right rear passenger footrest. The bracket is not the final one yet as I am still trying out the modification. The reservoir is from a Yamaha parts list as I wanted the bottom exiting nozzle. With hindsight I should have chosen a side exiting nozzle. One problem that I did have was bleeding the brakes as the brake line exits the master cylinder at the top which provides an inconvenient place for air to be trapped. I hope you and all your readers/contributors have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year for 2005. Keep up the good work with the website. Regards, Dave Loubser, Durban, South Africa. Arghh! Green with envy |

Jan 2 Happy New Year. Sorry for the delay in getting this months page up, but I had rather a bad head yesterday and spent a lot of time kipping on the sofa. Hope you all had a pleasant Xmas and New Year. We certainly did. If I wasn't busy putting toys together for my 7 year old then I was out driving with my 17 year old daughter in preparation for her driving test on the 29th Dec........She passed, so no one's safe in Shrewsbury including me. It's a big boon for her but also me, as I've now got a chauffer ;-) For some reason my SV is not in bits yet. I usually take it apart in Jan and Feb for couple of reasons. 1. I have the option of using a car for work and can avoid the unpleasant weather. 2. I don't do much maintenance work during the riding months, so now I have to play catch-up. Thanks to all the mods and enhancements I've made over the past few winters this gets easier with each passing year. See here for details. Anyhow the bike is still outside because the garage is full of rubbish due to the ongoing decorating of my lounge. So I've got to get that finished before the bike gets some attention. I've been considering what to do about the SV. It's getting on a bit now (1999 model) and I feel like a change. But with my daughter going off to Uni later this year I have to consider my budget. I'm not bored with the SV but some of the minor niggles are starting to be big niggles. For instance I've never been that keen on the riding position. As it's an S model my wrists do suffer and low speed manoeuvring can be a problem. I'm not going to fit cow horns but I could do with and extra inch or so of height on the bars. So I've ordered some Sunrisers from the US. These are adjustable and I can choose the height I want up to an extra 2". To complement these I've also ordered some HEL brake lines to cater for the increased distance from the bars to the callipers. The original lines are overdue for replacement, so I makes sense to do both jobs together. I'll update the diary page mentioned earlier when I get all this stuff fitted.
Meantime, watch out for the black ice. |
