Feb 19 Easy Risers

John

Please find attached riser doc. It could do with editing to simplify it, but if I don't send this it'll never be done. Hope it proves useful - I know I'm pleased with the function and look.

Alex Oliver <aa#bikersavetigers.freeserve.co.uk>

It's an interesting article. It's in the Articles and reviews section but this is a shortcut Thanks to Alex for taking the time to do this.

Feb 13 Images from Malta

Hi John,

Its been a while since I've contributing something to our site. Had nothing to give I suppose. Well I've been out for a ride last Sunday and took my camera with me. I happened upon a nicely converted 2000 SV. The owner was another cafe racer nutcase like me. He doesn't have a computer so asked me if I could mail pictures of his creation so as to share with all. He done all the work himself, very talented bloke I must say. Converted to dual lights which entailed the manufacture of custom bracket to hold everything together. The instrument cluster was offset and incorporated into this bracket. Notice the top yoke. Very classy eh? Would you believe that that is a stock SV routed out. He has a mechanical engineering degree so knows what he's doing. Also the oil cooler is another nice piece of work. The mods I did to my SV are overshadowed by his efforts. Hope you enjoy. Please forward all your comments on his creation to me, I'm sure he'll enjoy reading them.

Regards,

Think positive and keep the balance

Looks good. The top yoke is very cool.

Feb 9 - Screen wash your forks!

Hi John

I have just followed the advice on your web site and a good one it is at that, to do the front fork oil great advice but i found that instead of waiting for the fork oil to drain out by siphoning it a better way is to use the washer bottle motor of your car to pump it out.

You do have to siphon the fluid to the end of the tube so that when you attach the motor it is drawing fluid from the start not fresh air.

Just wash it out after use and put it back on the car job done, OH DEAR forgot to say power the motor off your own battery.

Keep up the great work

Feb 9 -

Hey John, congrats on 5 years. Keep up the good work, this site rocks. Just thought i would send some photos of my 03' 650S. It's still in progress, I have yet to put on my carbon stalker front markers, and my Two Brothers titanium slip on, But it's been very snowy here. Just waiting for spring.

The belly pan and the tail kit are from Extreme Graphic Moto Design. You can find there product at Extremegraphicfsmd.com . And yes the seat cowl is from Targa. I ordered it from www.targa-acc.com  all pieces were pre painted to match, and well matched at that. The only piece I have had any trouble out of is the seat cowl. It doesn't fit perfectly as you can see in this new photo. It is pretty close though and I'm not one to complain too much. Well have a great day and I'll talk to you later.

Thanx for the site,
good times.

Feb 5 - Silver is a popular colour!

Hi John,

Thought I'd send you over a few pictures of the bike as it stands at the moment. I've had about half a dozen people emailing and PM'ing me for photos of the bike so thought it would be easier to send you a few for the gallery. Took the rear mud flap type jobby off the other day and it's recently had a lovely Remus can from BikeSmart too. Bits to come are a carbon hugger and front mud guard, a seat cowl, tinted screen and anything else I can't afford!

Cheers and keep up the good work!

Feb 3 - Silver machine from Rob Hatch

Hi John

Here are a couple of pictures of my SV650S which I hope you find good enough to put on the www.sv650.org web site.

Details as follows :

The fender eliminator is in fact a number plate bracket which does away with that awful rear end. It is item number 2455144277 Suzuki SV650 - SV1000 small No. plate bracket available on EBay.

The link is http://cqi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Viewitem&item=2456162579&category=10534

I would advise anyone to buy one, it is a very good fit and looks the biz. The can is from the Carbon Can Company and sounds great and is still road legal.

The belly pan is from Suzuki and fits well although is a bit pricy. (£200ish, can't remember exact price)

Hope to add a Suzuki hugger and mushrooms after some more saving !

Cheers

Feb 3 - Bad backs and handlebars from Phil O`Neill

To all of those old gits well 40ish types who fell in love with the SVS , That deep growl from the exhaust, the torque from that fantastic engine and that unmistakable .....wrist ache , neck ache, and that unforgettable oh shit what is my chiropractors number again , back ache, come on guys drop the macho stuff the SVS despite all of it's previously stated glory, hurts, it hurts like hell , not when you are hare arseing around the twisties or down the motorway , but when you use it normally like in town or in traffic or just popping down to the shops , I live in Jersey , no twisties , no motorways , but oh god yes mile upon mile of traffic.

Now I know what you are thinking what in Gods sake did he buy an SVS for , well I love it , not the pain , the bike . and the SV is just dog ugly, unfinished. So with my dilemma the hunt was on, there must be a way to get the best of both worlds.

I've spent the last year looking for my saviour , using the SV 650 bits was a no-no, you need to change just about everything from cables to brake lines and it all costs a fortune , that led me to Sun risers in Canada who do a bolt on riser conversion but although the price was right it still didn't bring the bars up to where I wanted finally I was told about a German company called LSL who do a superbike handlebar kit which has just been released for the 650, it arrived one week from the order date it was fitted one week and one day from the order date and guess what , no wrist ache no neck ache and did I mention back ache , what's that then !, the only thing that I couldn't get rid of is that stupid fixed grin that SVS riders have. Here are some piccies make up your own mind ,Safe riding , Phil ,Jersey.

P.S sorry about the file sizes, I thought someone would like to enlarge the pics to get a better look , If anyone wants details on the conversion they can write to me on phill#jerseymail.co.uk all the best , Phil.

It seems a lot easier to do this conversion on the new shape SVS, as the screen doesn't seem to get in the way. Looks good. By the way banditmania.co.uk do a similar comversion.

Feb 1 - Custom Paint from Jason Phillips-Peters

Hi John.
Any chance you could put these pics in the gallery? It's my new paint job. Details available if required. The "Artist" came highly recommended, and you can see why!
Cheers,
Jason.

I asked Jason for some closeups

Hi John.

Hope these close ups are ok. I think they catch the effect ok! It was quite a process to get there, but it works (well, for me anyway!!) You don't have to use them all of course, I'll leave that to your discretion, but you can if you wish!!! These are to go with my full size shots I sent to you before and you asked me back for some close ups, just in case you'd forgotten....
Hope you and yours are well. Roll on some better weather...

Jason. (jasons#jaysv650.free-online.co.uk)

P.S.Full details of paint job available if anyone interested. VERY reasonable cost, all in...

Feb 1

Please excuse the larger than normal flash image on the home page. I had to do something a bit special to mark the 5th year of this site. If you fancy a bit if nostalgia, then look at February 1999.

From time to time life has a habit of chucking the unexpected at you, and I wasn't expecting the site to be off the air for a week. I've already explained the technical reasons for the problem in an announcement on the forum, so I won't labour the point here. On the positive side I got a lot on emails offering help and asking for feedback, thanks to all those people. It's worth remembering that the whole site is provided free by individuals who are are keen on both IT and bikes, it's not a professional organisation. This has it's pros and cons. The cons are quite small, for instance it might mean that sometimes things can take a little longer to fix. The Pros are that the site is free, I don't therefore have to have ads or charge for access. I don't want to run the site any other way. So thanks to Ken for providing the bandwidth and thanks to Steven Nance for hosting the site on his server.

What's new here. I finally cleared the garage of all the debris left over from the bathroom re-fit (yes it did get finished). I've now moved the bike in and the winter re-build and service has started. There's been some threads on the forum recently concerning the up keep of the SV and I've referred readers to the article 'Diary of an SV-restorer" in the Articles section. It's my own personal log of the work that I had to perform on the SV in the winter of 2002. You might find it of some use. I did some more work last year but I reported that on these pages. I plan to cut and paste these into the original articles to give an ongoing 'living with an SV' theme. My bikes in pretty good nick this year, no real corrosion problems. This could be down to the better weather and maybe that I started using the Scottoiler product FS365. My mileage is a shade under 19k, so I'm giving it a 20k service. So far I've removed, drained and synchronized the carbs, lubricated the choke cables, changed the engine oil and replaced the plugs. It sounds sweeter all ready.

I start thinking about the annual rideout about this time of year. I favour a northerly venue this time, as last years was in the south. My first thought is the Cat and Fiddle pub in Yorkshire. Not been there before but it's supposed to be on a cracking road and would seem a good place to meet up. If anyone local would like to suggest or plan a ride out in this area, then I'm all ears.

John
