31/12/01 From James Rochford
on an electrical problem. This chestnut
keeps coming up. I recall a spate of battery problems over the years but
rectifiers are a new one. Anyone else had this? I reserve comment on
Carrnells, especially after my rear brake problems. John
Just thought I'd share an electrical problem with you. I bought an svs 2000 model in May 2001 from a friend of mine. The only problem he had encountered was a complete electrical failure which seemed to have been rectified when the battery was given a charge. In July 2001 I had the same problem, however I was using the bike every day traveling at least 20 miles via dual carriageway. I took the bike to my local Motorcycle City/ Carnell dealers as it was still under warranty. The bike was in for a service as well. The service was done and I was told, in no uncertain terms, that I MUST have left the lights on. They said that the battery was fine apart from needing a charge up which they decided to charge me £30.00 for!!!!!. I stupidly paid being rather naive. In November 2001 the exact same problem occurred. I immediately returned the bike to Carnells. I insisted that it was the same problem and that it was not the battery. 2 days later they eventually confirmed that there was an intermittent fault with the Regulating rectifier. The bike was ready for collection 5 days later. Having come to my senses i demanded a refund of the £30.00 which they conceded to. Is there a history of this problem. If not I think it's worth letting people know. Cheers. Great site by the way. James Rochford from Bristol, England. |

31/12/01 From Matt
Jones A good looking SV. How about a
closer look at your homemade fairing,
John, This site is really great. I have been an SV owner for a year and a half. This was originally a naked SV, but as you can see I got a little carried away. The belly pan and the modified under-tail came from http://www.freestreetdesign.com . The rear seat cowl came from MET via http://www.whaccessories.com and was modified to maintain storage compartment accessibility with the key. The front fairing is by far the most unique part on the bike because I made it. I put Dunlop 207's on the bike and blue strobe lights right under the gas tank. The whole bike was painted dark blue and has a Biohazard theme. Thank You, Matt Jones |

28/12/01 Apologies
Apologies for the lack of updates recently. The owner (Steve) of the hardware that this site resides on has been moving some servers around and has accidentally cut off my access to your emails. Solutions are being worked on and I should be picking up your emails soon. Happy New Year to you all...John. |

has been in touch. He's been a busy lad. Here's his email
Hi John, here is the current look of my SV650R. The bodywork is the product I made with Armour Bodies help and can be purchased through my other site 2wheeljunkie.com. I also have a race upper available for racers wanting this look - the lower is already race legal. We ended up painting the entire bike 99 prowler yellow and the number plates are also sprayed on. It's all under 3 coats of clear-coat and looks unbelievable in person. The list of goodies run down as follows... 2wheeljunkie.com bodywork (upper, lower, tail and front fender), TwoBrothers full high mount exhaust, Dynojet Stage 1 kit, Race Tech front end with Gold Valves and .85 springs, YZF pre-load caps, Ohlins rear shock, MBmotorsports Frame Sliders, Goodridge SS brake lines, MotoBits rearsets, Undertray, Zero Gravity double bubble screen, Clear Alternatives tail light, LP carbon fiber mirrors. Still to be put on Dunlop D207 GP star tires. Take care, Rob Chappell SVRIDER.com 2wheeljunkie.com Looks good. |

19/12/01 Some follow-up on
the Ozzy item below from Kevin Fernandez kev827@attbi.com
regarding the ozzycustom2.jpg of an svs with a full front fender. it looks like a ducati 748/996/916 front fender custom fitted on the sv. it be great if you can find instructions on how to do this :) Could be the case. I've had no contact from Ozzy yet. If anyone else has fitted a 948 mudguard to an SVS write in and tell us how you did it...John |

18/12/01 Paging Ozzy from
John
Hasiwar jhasiwar@sympatico.ca
Hey John, I'm writing from ontario Canada. Just wanted to know if you would happen to know where this guy got his front fender from and whether there would be a dealer here or in the USA? I think the sv looks so much better with a full front fender. Thanks. Joe! I tracked this photo down to a chap called Ozzy. Kev met him on his day down at Renegade. I can't find any contact details for him. So if you're reading this Oz drop me a line. If anyone else knows where I can contact Ozzy or answer Johns query then please drop me or John an email. John |

14/12/01 Good news for
Canadian SV riders from Michael Vettese mvettese@aci.on.ca
Thanks Michael
Hi, my name is Steve Vettese from Toronto Canada. A few months ago I contacted Suzuki Canada about the lower fairing for the SVS. They said that they did not plan to market it in Canada. This was odd because it is a factory accessory in the UK. Finally, last week (Dec. 10) they emailed me back saying that they will carry the lower fairing (Basically the same as TCP Aerodynamics) in Canada. This is great news for us because we will not have to pay large shipping costs. They said that it might not be included into their catalogue due to the fact that it was a last minute decision to carry the product. Also, they said that they haven't decided on prices yet. Hope this helps out some other Canadians who are looking to enhance the look of their SVS. Sincerely, Steve Vettese |

dropped me a line about her SV web site. Judging by the address she's
based in Belgium. There are some other links from her site that may be
of interest
Hi john, Dono if this is the place for this info, but... Check out my site ( perhaps you can list it on the links-section... ) http://users.pandora.be/gwen.van.mechelen/ Later Gwen |

10/12/01 Tony TonyP2020@aol.com
wrote to me regarding my winter de-crudding comments. I shall be taking
a close look at the electrical areas Tony mentions
Hi John, with reference to your posting about stripping your SV down, I have now stripped and painted the forks on my SVS (sprayed with smooth silver Hammerite) as well as changing the oil (to 15w oil) and fitting spacers. I also dismantled and greased the steering head bearings, but did not find any corrosion, thankfully. I don't know if yours is the SV or SVS, so a couple of problems I found on my SVS (V reg '99 model). The electrical system had been giving me some trouble, rev counter, front indicators and lights not working, on an intermittent basis. I have seen these faults before on the forum. I disconnected the harness plugs which hide in the fairing and water came out from the harness when I let the connectors drop. Not good. Under the LHS fairing is the main connector for the front end of the bike. This is the big connector shown in the middle of the wiring diagrams in the workshop manual. There is a small section red cable running through this connector which is a permanently live supply to the electronics behind the LCD display. This cable, along with the Black with White (B/W) earth cable (the only earth cable to the whole of the front end), were both corroded with lots of green stuff around the connectors. I was able to clean the earth connector, but the one for the little red cable was to far gone. I have now fitted another connector (computer disk drive extension cable - cheap and easily available) and the little red cable now goes through this new connector, while I broke into the loom (nearer the headlamp) and soldered a second earth cable to the existing one and this now runs to the battery via the new connector, in parallel with the old one. Result is no more problems with the electric's. Well, so far.... Some of the connectors Suzuki fitted are well sealed with rubber grommets, but others are not sealed in any way. I have now used silicon sealant to fill in the rear of all these connectors without grommets. Not very pretty as it is not easy to get it neat, but better than corrosion. (another item I've used in the past is switch cleaner, look like WD40. It's used by electronics repairers to get in those noisy volume controls. It cleans and lubricates without causing loss of electrical conductivity. John) HTH Cheers Tony Wirral |

7/12/01 Forum use from John.
I noticed the debate regarding the Raptor on the forum General board was getting a little heated. I also commend Geoff Gaunts comments. The board is there for all to use and enjoy. We all have differing opinions on various topics and we should respect other peoples views. There may be the odd Troll, best thing is to ignore them. |

3/12/01 From John
Last month of 2001 and the opportunities for getting out on the bike are getting slimmer (apart from commuting to work). Kev and I tried to get out on Saturday but the weather and small children intervened. My SV will be going in the garage for a month or so for some serious de-crudding. This used to be a habit of mine with previous bikes, but I couldn't bear to be without the SV in the past couple of years, so I carried on riding through the winter and got the corrosion I expected. I plan to pull the SV apart and give it a good clean. The front forks are a mess, the lacquer needs stripping off and the forks polishing. I shall also change the fork oil and get some shims to add some preload. The wiring loom will be checked for abrasion damage. Brakes will get a complete overhaul and some new pads. The torque arm on the rear brake is turning a nice shade of rust, so that may get treated to some plastic coating. Should keep me busy. |
