CURRENT POSTINGS  FOR  AUGUST  2001

30/08/01 - Exhaust question from Marcelo pronto@teletext.co.uk - anyone enlighten us please?

Yoshi systems are available in the USA but not here (UK), is it that their spec is different or is it because their noise pollution regulations are'nt as tight as ours, any idea?

Marcelo - thanks for your email and kind words not listed above...

22/08/01 - Update on MENCAP fund raising

Following on from doing the National Rally earlier this year, with your help and support I raised (all figures in UK pounds sterling):

£396 - credit card donations from SV650.org readers - BIG THANK YOU!
£110 - donations via cheques from SV650.org readers
- BIG THANK YOU!
£36 - cash donations at my work place

Grand total of £542 !!!

22/08/01 - High power at standard - thanks to Sara SaraLWells@aol.com for the note

I had to write, I had a Renagade 2 into 2 low level renegade exhaust fitted last weekend, and I still haven't lost the smile !!!  We turned up, met Jorge, who put my bike on the dyno, and were both supprised to find my bike was 76bhp before they even started.  wow - I had 74.6 with bike as standard and I know a few other people have come close but 76 is the most I've seen - not bad considering Suzuki only claim 69bhp!

After my beautiful pipes were put on, they put the bike back on the dyno, and its now quicker than Jorges.  If anyone is unsure of what exhaust to fit to their SV then they must go and see Jorge at Renegade, nothing else is worth it

22/08/01 - Images and good dealership comments - thanks Tony t.collard@talk21.com

I haven't been in touch for a little while, so I thought I'd say hello with a few recent pictures of the bike. I hope that everyone is enjoying the summer on their SVs!!

I wanted to just put in a good word for the guys at ALPHA MOTORCYCLES down at Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. After the 4000 mile service, I found the radiator grill damaged. There was no doubt that the radiator had been pushed onto the horn bracket during the front spark plug change. I contacted Alphas and they agreed to fit a new radiator free of charge. Anyway, one visit postponed due to the bad winter weather and 4000 miles on (some time too), the guys were true to their word and restored my faith that brilliant customer service does still exist. Motorcycle dealers like this one are hard to find. Well done ALPHA MOTORCYCLES. This commendation together with one from another of your SV subscribers due to their excellent performance in sourcing a Suzuki lower fairing in extra quick time (even though it was a bank holiday) - ARCHIVE DATA 21/06/01.

I'm looking ahead now to getting some twin, low level RENEGADES. Does anyone have a set of Road Legal cans fitted (my preference, to avoid any hassle with the Boys in Blue)?? If so, please voice your opinion on them my way - am interested to know!!

16/08/01 - Differences on 2001 model SV - thanks to Brian brian@commline.com

I was in the dealer the other day here in Glendale, CA, USA where I bought my 2001 SV650s and they just got the 2002 in. It was blue. It's been sitting there for a few days... Just seems to get one more piece of foam taken out of the crate per day. :) The guy in back hasn't had time to finish it.

Anyway, the ONLY differences between it and the 2001 are the adjusters at the top of front forks and the graphic used to say "SV650s" on the fairing. They used a different typeface and also put in smaller letters beneath it "V-twin power" or something very close that.

Something interesting to note that the owner of the shop told me...ALL of the blue ones he's sold have come back wrecked...none of the red ones. I'm glad mine's red. :)  glad mine is too!

16/08/01 - Short and sweet, just an image from chihoi@home.com

16/08/01 - A new SV from the stables of James Holland Racing - thanks for the info James jhsracing@lineone.net

A couple of pictures of a machine recently completed.

Spec on the machine is as follows ;
750cc kit, stage2 cams, carrillo rods,sv400 ignition box, TL forks , 320mm disc's 6-pot calipers, 180section rear end converstion, hagon shock, 1"3/4pipes with 2"outlets, 916 modified fairing, sharkskinz seat unit, plus shed loads of other parts and modifications.

The machine, as you will see, is road registered but is not intended to be used much for the road, more track.

We still have a further unfaired machine which we are breaking for spare's, this machine as I have said before is brand new , in black. so contact James if you're after bits!

16/08/01 - Forks replaced under warranty - this happened to David david@wotherspoon4.fsnet.co.uk

Thought you might like to know that I've just had a lower fork casing replaced "under warranty" due to corrosion. This took the form of worm trails in the metal; probably caused by salt. This only seemed to happen on the left fork so they replaced it. It took about 4 weeks but it happened. The dealer was North Harbour Motorcycles in Ayr, Scotland.

The moral of the story is if you don't ask you don't get! So if you have corrosion problems get on to your dealer. too right...

16/08/01 - SV carb heaters (READ THIS!!!) - the saga continues with much thanks to Jed Lynjed@aol.com for sticking with this issue

just a note for those still suffering with carb icing problems (winter is approaching - again and I still receive emails).

If you have an import without heaters or yours are buggered and out of warranty, they can be obtained in the UK from Suzuki for £46.50 plus vat. Fitting costs extra - down to the dealer. They are easy to fit, they just screw in, but some wiring is required . However the excellent link someone provided that enables you to download the SV manual in PDF format (see www.svrider.com for microfiche downloads - I was asked to remove the direct links to the files themselves that I once displayed), has the relevant wiring diagrams (somebody buy that man a pint - just how long did getting that entire manual together take!) I reckon it is just about possible to fit them without removing the carbs.

For foreign owners I am unable to confirm which country fit them as Suzuki inform that each country chooses its own spec (I beleive the Uk is unique).  However you should be able to order them from your dealer, if not many UK dealers will mail direct to you.

If your genuine UK SV is misfiring in the cold Suzuki say it shouldn't, if you still experienced this after a dealer has looked at it, then Suzuki will investigate with their support (their words not mine). Anybody who suffers a problem this winter and cannot get it cured after visiting the dealer, please vent your fury on Mr Charles Dennison at Suzuki Gb PLC. Tel 01293 766000 Fax 01293 545315.

Those with parallels, need to take the independent importer to one side and get them to fit them - lesson is don't buy a parallel SV without them fitted in the price!

16/08/01 - Replacement tank, how much? - If know please contact Gaber gaberkosir@hotmail.com

i would like to know how much does the new tank for my sv costs. i have mine dented.  I've have no idea, try Suzuki directly or if anyone reading this knows please let Gaber know.

16/08/01 - Lower fairing, hugger and rear seat cover part numbers - all thanks to Steve steve.george@smgee.co.uk

I scanned this from a Suzuki magazine my local dealer gave me. It gives the part numbers for official Suzuki body accessories. These are actually made
by TCP (Spanish I think), but distributed in the UK by Suzuki GB and available through dealers.

I ordered a lower fairing and tail cowl for my yellow SVSK1 from my local dealer, and they arrived within 3 working days. The delivery time depends on whether Suzuki GB have stock or not. Colour matching is spot on, and the quality is excellent for the price.

I hope this is of interest. yes it is, thank very much!

10/08/01 - Hang off #1 - trackday comments and images - thanks very much to Rich richardw@lsdicon.com

I just thought I’d send you these 2 pics of me on the little SV down at the Pembrey Racetrack, in South Wales. It's an excellent track, and very easy to learn. It’s not a power track, so I was hunting down (and overtaking) TL’s and GSX’s. I was in the fast group, and the only things that came past me were race bikes on slicks. I have done a few mods over time to the SV, but nothing major. I have put the bottom fairing on, and a hugger, as well as new springs put in the front, and had the back shock lengthened, put 140 mains jets in and moved the needle up a notch, and I run on Michellin Pilots sports (THE best tyres I think). This bike handles like a dream. I have completely worn away the blobs on the foot pegs, so bad in fact, I think I will have to buy a new right hand peg because the blob is now gone, and it was wearing the foot peg away by the end of the day, but hey it was fun, and makes sparks, but I need to move them out the way next time.

Anyway here are the pics, keep up the good work with the site. I have done most things to my bike already, but I still check back to this site regularly to keep an eye on things. Great Job mate.

10/08/01 - Wire Chaffing Caused Misfire  - thanks to Andy TE_S552@atlas.kingston.ac.uk for this valuable info....

I have included a copy of a posting I have made to the General Discussion Message Board, and think it is worth putting on your Current Data and/or FAQ Section.  OK. As you say below there have been comments regarding the under seat wiring before but here is Andy's contribution for all to see and digest...

I thought I would post this to warn all SV owners of a potential problem with the SV's wiring loom under the seat.

The sympton:
The SV (mine is a 2000 UK SVS) had a very bad misfire and was running on one cylinder intermittently, but only when hot.

The cause:
Under the front seat, if you follow the wiring loom from the fuse box towards the front of the bike, where the loom runs underneath the fuel tank "hinge", the loom had been chaffed or cut by the sharp edge on the bottom of the "hinge". There were three wires damaged, green, black with white tracer and black with nearly white tracer (possibly light green). One of the wires was three quarters cut through. The wires must have been shorting against each other or the tank hinge, but only did it when hot?

The fix:
Carefully remove the rest of the outer insulation from around the damaged area and perform surgery with a soldering iron and insulation tape. The whole lot was then wrapped back up, and close inspection was made to all of the looms and wires around the whole area under the seat and tank. I found some others that didn't look perfect and dealt with them all in the same way. When the whole lot was put back together, I took care in the routing and put foam where the looms
were touching sharp looking bits.

I strongly advise all SV owners to have a careful look (shouldn't take more than half an hour to check), as I have heard of a similar problem reported on this site before. Looking at the way the wires are routed, I am not surprised that this has happened.

You have been warned, I had to push the bike for over a mile in full leathers on a warm summers evening when I should of been wheelying and having a laugh!

09/08/01 - Clarification of E stickers - thanks to Marc marcmf@cdsalesrec.co.uk

I have today looked at my SVS today and saw to my horror the E4 sticker. I have phoned Suzuki and they we very helpful and gave me all the details I needed, so to sum up:

Any bike that Suzuki manufacture has to be tested to European standards, hence the 'E' Stickers.
E4 Tested in France
E2 Tested in Uk and so on.......
If your bike has an E4 sticker on it only means that it was tested in France NOT that it was destined for France. I spoke with a Chap called Andrew McQuillan who said that he WILL confirm this in writing if I need it.

I hope that this helps . yes it does...thanks

09/08/01 - SV? Don omega88@city-net.com is now enlightened..

Does anyone know what the meaning of the “SV” category means in Suzuki speak?  Yep.... Suzuki V-twin

07/08/01 -  Image catalog update

07/08/01 -    The Rocket Locker - if your interested in this good looking tail bag for the SV see the website or contact Leslie LAlderman@aol.com

I have a patent-pending soft luggage piece now available that locks on the bike in place of the rear passenger seat on sportbikes (Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Honda, BMW, Ducati, Triumph, Aprilia).  Called a Rocket Locker. Rocket Locker.. The revolutionary locking tail-bag for Sportbikes I've attached a pic of it on the SV650. It was just reviewed in the August issue of CYCLE WORLD here...and I have sold dozens of them. It is a Cordura luggage piece with a hard baseplate and fittings mounted on the bottom that lock it on the bike in place of the removeable rear seat.

I am in serious discussion with Carnall and Madison Distributing about selling them in Europe. I thought this might interest you or some of your people. I have other pics available.
Sv650_rd.jpg

Here is the Elite Zip-Pak Rocket Locker in blue...we do them all black, red/black, blue/black. It will hold a full face helmet. Plenty of room for ovvernite trips.
SV650_Bl.jpg

This is the one we did for the magazine pics. I can do them like this if ordered this way. Let me hear from you if you have any interest or comments.

07/08/01 - In reference to his posting of 20/07 (Is mine an import) Keith KEITHRITCHIE7@aol.com asks.....  if you can help you know what to do..

Thanks for the the info Guys but does any one know how to put this to Suzkui UK to get a answer to why a uk spec bike I payed for has got a French origin
sticker on it, and how does that stand with my insurance.  if anyone knows how to get anything out of suzuki please let me know too!

07/08/01 - Undertray Fitment - useful info here from Nick thepillingers@btinternet.com - thanks!

Just to let you know I've put together a site showing the fitting of an FSD 2-light undertray onto my '99 SVS. I don't know if you want to put a link to it from your site but the address is http://www.thepillingers.btinternet.co.uk/

Just thought I'd send this as you have no images or fitting details of this type of tray, and as it is a bit different from the standard type of undertray you might be interested in the results.

05/08/01 -   Back..

I'm now back and will make update's to this page this week. I have updated the for sale section (not all are posted yet but i will catch up).

Kevin
