POSTINGS  FOR APRIL  2002

April 19th From Max D in Turin, Italy

Hi John, I'm Max from Turin, Italy. I send in attachment some photos of my "GreyHawk". Once upon a time, there was was a blue SV650S... now there's what you see. Thanks for this great site! Two fine looking machines turn up at the same time. Thanks Max, it's a very tasteful customisation. I'd love to change the colour of my SV. John

April 19th Chris Baker sent me these photos a month ago and asked me not to publish until the paint work had been completed. The bike had been spotted on the road and Soren Ragsdale sent me this email.

I thought you'd dig this: today, I saw someone riding a truly beautiful SV/F4/GSXR/Ducati combination. http://www.monkeydyne.com/photos/pics.phtml?d=afm&f=DSCN2559.JPG ps; more photos at http://www.monkeydyne.com/photos/pics.phtml?d=afm

I contacted Chris again and asked for permission to publish as his secret was out. Here's his reply

John, It is so funny to see pics of my bike start showing up on the web... Why don't you go ahead and post some of the pics and let everyone know that a 'full feature' is coming once I get it finished. Feel free to publish my name, e-mail and cell phone and invite people to contact me with any questions. Thanks, Chris Baker cbaker@niku.com Mobile: 916-799-3934

As Chris mentions, we discussed doing a full feature write up on this site once the bike is complete. Enjoy these for now.

April 17th a request from Doug

John, I am collecting info on faults that occur on the SV. Anything from electrical to corrosion on the fork legs. I aim to collate all this info (not decided yet on the exact format) for others to use. To do this I need info. So can anyone who has had a fault mail me at vtwin650@tiscali.co.uk , with: a) the fault description b) the rectifying action Cheers Doug

Feel free to vent your spleen to Doug.

April 17th Short and sweet from Graeme

Good site john here's the result from much probing your and similar sites cheers Graeme

April 15th from Mick follow up on the mystery fairing mentioned below (8/4/02)

Found it. http://www.whaccessories.com/SV%20650%20Accessories.htm  Mick (It's the Metisse sprint fairing)

also I wrote to Sveze - webmaster@svrider.de and got this interesting reply.

Hi John, this pic shows the Suzuki SV 650 S LE (Limited Edition), that you can buy in Germany. It's an official Suzuki Germany fairing. Perhaps somebody from Suzuki may help you. We only show the history of the bike. greetz, sveze (webmaster@svrider.de) So Suzuki of Germany do a special edition!

April 15th from phil.hodge  on the subject of engine armour.

I was having some trouble recently finding someone who makes suitable engine casing covers (armour) for the SV - all the Gixers and TLs were there, but the SV was missing :-( Anyway I found a website for a guy who makes Carbon/Kevlar armour (http://www.enginearmour.net ), but again no SV listed, so I thought I'd try and ask if any could be made - I sent off my engine casings and a couple of weeks later voila ! some sexy Carbon fibre armour, see photos attached :-) Just thought I'd let people know in case anyone else out there has the inclination to add some Carbon fibre to their bikes - John @ Creations also makes the engine armour with the Kevlar weave on the outside for a yellow/black finish ... I just preferred the Carbon fibre look. I've also attached a few photos of my bike in general 'cause I was taking them at the same time ... the bike's had a number of modifications; Hyperpro progressive fork springs, Braided brake hoses, Blue-tinted double-bubble screen, Engine armour by Creations, JHS Racing frame sliders, Skidmarx rear seat cover, Akrapovic full exhaust system, Dynojet Stage 1 kit, Penske rear shock, Rhencullen undertray ... phew I hadn't realised I'd done so much to it ! Next up is gonna be some nice Gilles rear sets I think :-) Phil. Must have cost a few bob, thanks Phil

April 12th I was sent this biking mpg this afternoon. How not to do a stoppie. 500kb download. Nothing to do with SV's but fun.

April 12th from Scott Buer a piece on one of the more extravert SV riders ;-0

Check out America's finest ex-stripper turned mayor on her blue SV in Newsweek magazine at http://www.msnbc.com/news/731602.asp  Thanks Scott Buer

April 8th I was sent an email which included this photo but with no english text. I assumed it was spam and the attachment some image from a dodgy website. I saved the image for later checking and then accidentally deleted the email. The photo is shown below and it may have been sent to show the flyscreen that's attached. Can the sender please resend the email and I'll translate via babel. Thanks John

April 8th from Emilio Serrano . Emilio wants to publicise his Spanish SV website

Hi John.   I'd like to present you the first Spanish Sv site: the SvClub http://www.svclub.net  I´d like you to include us into your links directory, I've done it with your site, as a reference Sv site.   If there is any way to create a collaboration between us, please, tell me. I'll be pleased to work with other Sv passionated...   I expect for your answer. Best regards.

April 8th from Ismail Thanickel who is trying to identify this fairing.

Do you know anything about this 1/4 fairing for naked sv650. I saw it in www.svrider.de under the history section.   http://www.8ung.at/svrider/svhistorie/sv_02_le.jpg   http://www.8ung.at/svrider/svhistorie/   Looks like somewhere there is a limited edition available...   Any info will be helpful

Does anyone know who makes this fairing? Let me know. John

April 8th from David Forster on fork corrosion.

I had the same trouble as Kevin Sharpe & probably the rest of the SV owners regarding corrosion on the front forks. My axle clamp actually snapped & I got a new pair of sliders & seals however on the first sight of road salt the new ones corroded I have probably only done 600 miles with them since installing them about 6 months ago. The Suzuki has to be the worst bike I have ever had for rot, when I got it Aug 99 with in the first couple of months the horn corroded so badly the terminal fell off, the front brake light switch & clutch idiot switch seized forks corroded carbs (choke) corroded & seized all metal brackets painted with that poxy khaki coloured paint rusted electrical connectors etc. I have to keep on top of this bike for reliabilities sake nearly 13000 miles looking like 5 times that. Still I can't part with the bloody thing.

Depressing isn't it. I think it can only get worse as bikes are seen more as leisure vehicles and are built for fair weather riding. I know it's a budget machine but I can't believe that some simple protection would cost that much. My old bike had black painted fork legs and they were fine for 9 years, so it can be done. Invest in some wd40 it does seem to help.

April 6th Tony P has sent me the UK spec wiring diagrams to add to the Sv manual page. Cheers Tony

April 6th From Kevin Sharpe, forks and additions to his SV

Hello John, I haven't had time to keep as close an eye on the site as I used to but it's good to see it's still going strong.   I have been in discussions with Marriott's of Birkenhead to see if there is much that can be done about the front forks corrosion. Things haven't been so bad despite doing a fair mileage (17500 miles in 28 months) but the last few months have seen things really deteriorate. There is a good-will claim in at present and we'll have to see how that goes.   On a brighter note I finally got round to putting on a decent exhaust a few months ago and it has instantly transformed the bike. It is a G-Force 3/4 system that was easy to fit (once I got the original bolts undone!) and looks the biz. The throttle response is much more crisp and there is a very noticeable increase in power throughout the rev range - and it sounds like the dog's b*****ks. Small animals and timid souls stand back! The lower fairing from Santa looks pretty good and the Suzuki items have a good colour match. The MPS double bubble screen, an NWS hugger and a scottoiler under the seat completes the deal.   I hope the pics aren't too big but they are also for the record re the forks. I'll send the smaller versions of the bike.   Keep up a great site. Happy riding........   Kevin.

That rot on the front fork looks painfully familiar. Wanna buy a used polishing kit. Seriously good luck with the claim. The more claims Suzuki get the better, perhaps they'll coat the forks with something more durable. John

April 1st From James Howard regarding the JC Witney Cafe Fairing

hello john, this is a pic of my ride. A lot of guys wanted to see the jc whitney cafe fairing. please tell me when you post this pic thanks, james. Reminds me of the fairing that Suzuki used to put on the GS1000s back in the middle 80's

April 1st (April Fools day in the UK) Sorry about this months cover shot. I found this picture via a google image search a few months back and I knew I'd found a use for it at some point. Apparently its an industrial vacuum cleaner.

I can't believe how quick the year is passing by. I still haven't been out for a decent run as yet, which is a shame. Still I plan to correct that next weekend, as this coming week I'm going to be in Blackpool with the family for a couple of nights and after that no one can complain if I disappear for a few hours on Sunday. I bet it tips down now I've said that. If I do manage to get out, then I'll test out Kev's ride-out route. Speaking of Kev, I haven't seen much of him lately. He's in the process of moving house and you know what a hassle that is. We've been speaking about the trips we'd like to make this year. He's off to Scotland for a few days in May with the wife, and I'm planning to get to the BMF show in Peterborough. We didn't do any BSB rounds last year, so we'll have to put that straight this time round. The BMF web page has a very good list of events, check it out for ideas and start planning.

All the best. John
